Color Blocking with Glimmer Mists and Deluxe Templates
This first sample was created using a Deluxe
Card Template, white card stock, Glimmer Mists, Glimmer
Screens and a Heidi Swapp mask. Stamp images are from
our Floral Ornament series and Verses: Feel Better,
etc. series.
Glimmer mists are water based metallic
sprays. Shake them well before each use to mix the mica
powder with the dye. Scroll to the bottom of our Glimmer
Mist Page for tips and FAQ's on obtaining different
paterns when spraying.
General Instructions: Cut your
card stock to the size of the template you're using
(either A2, 5x7 or 6x6). Place the Deluxe Template over
your card stock. You may wish to use a low-tack tape
to adhere the template to keep it from slipping.
Use 2-3 pieces of scrap paper to cover
blocks that you don't want to mist. Spritz the open
blocks to add color and glimmer. You may also cover
open blocks with Glimmer Screens, Heidi Swapp Masks
or other stencils and spritz over them to create other
patterns. Continue that process of create open sections
by moving your scrap paper until all the blocks are
colored. Blot the pooled Glimmer Mist off the template
with a paper towel as you go so it doesn't end up running
onto your paper. Don't be afraid to mix colors to create
richer colors.
Remove the deluxe template to reveal
the uncolored borders. Allow your color blocked card
stock to dry complete and then iron it with no steam
or flatten it between heavy books for an hour. Mask
select uncolored borders with low-tack BlockIt tape
before stamping to prevent stamping in the borders where
you don't want to.
Specific Details: In the example
above, the background images were created by placing
a Glimmer Screen over the upper left block. This was
done after silver was spritzed but before spritzing
with pink bubblegum. An adhesive mask was applied over
the lower left block before spritzing with honey dew
mist.
The white paper flowers were colored
with the same Glimmer Mist colors used to create the
card, for perfect coordination.
Note: Masks actually adhere to
the cardstock, creating a more distinct line than stencils
or screens. A Glimmer Screen was used on the bookmark
to the right, which creates a soft border. This project
was scanned instead of photographed, which really doesn't
show the metallic sheen of the glimmer mist, but better
shows the Glimmer Screen image.
