Comparison
between:
Stampa Rosa's Fresco
ColorBox Chalks
Ranger Antiquities
These
three ink pads all provide a muted chalky
look and all three have whitish residue
or chalk visible in their reinkers.
Ink
Type
ColorBox Chalk and Fresco are both dye ink.
Antiquities is a fast drying pigment ink,
and can be embossed. Ranger makes matching
embossing powders for its Antiquities ink.
Pad
Type
ColorBox Chalk comes on a foam pad with
"skin" like Ancient Page. It is
juicier, when new, than Fresco or Antiquities.
Fresco comes on a felt pad, as does Antiquities,
which is not common for pigment ink. The
combination of this type of pad with pigment
ink seems to give it the aged mottled look
that Ranger was seeking.
Performance
on White Paper
The ColorBox Chalk because of the juicy
nature can be hard to get an even image
with, particularly when trying to ink larger
or bold lined stamps. This, however, seems
as though it could be bonus for creating
some character in certain artworks. ColorBox
Chalk had, by far, the cleanest second image
(second stamped image without reinking the
rubber stamp). Its lighter colors are also
more visible on white paper than Antiquities
light colors. Fresco's pad makes it easier
to get a clean first image but the second
image is hardly visible. This is also true
for Antiquities. Using a pigment ink in
a felt pad is interesting. It is much easier
to keep from over inking the rubber stamp,
but it is also harder to get extra ink for
embossing.
Performance
on Black Paper
A darker color of ColorBox Chalks was used
for this sample. It is hardly visible on
black paper. Some of the lighter colors
are more visible but still not overly striking.
None of the Fresco Colors we tried were
visible on black paper. All of Antiquities
colors were not only visible but nicely
striking and the clear choice for use on
dark paper.
