CREATE YOUR OWN SHADOW STAMPS

Fun foam comes in different colors in 8 1/2" x 11" sheets. It can be found in the craft section of many variety stores or any craft store for less than $0.50/sheet. It also comes in precut shapes.

Cut out any shape and apply to an acrylic mount with glue stick or removable double-sided tape. Ink and use like a regular rubber stamp. Often the first stamp with the fun foam will be too dark. Experiment on scrap paper until image is just a little too dark and then stamp the next image on your card stock without re-inking.

I prefer black so it can't be ink stained. A lighter color will allow you to stamp an image to cut around. A shadow stamp can be an easy way to color in the lines of another stamp, create a background, frame an image and more.

Shadow image stamped with fun foam which was cut with deckle scissors. Straight edged scissors were used cut in notches and "rips" to provide aged look. With large pieces of fun foam, it may be easier not to mount your fun foam on a block, but the brayer it with ink, clean the brayer, place the foam on the paper ink side down and brayer the back lightly.

Shadow images were stamped with fun foam which was cut with deckle scissors. The image behind the dragonfly was stamped several times on scrap paper until the ink was almost gone, then stamped with strong pressure on a hard surface onto the card stock. This caused a border with more color than the center.

To clean your shadow stamps, just wash them in the sink with soap and water and dry by pressing between the layers of a folded paper towel, or air dry,

Images can also be pressed into fun foam, try heating with a heat gun slightly and pressing a rubber stamp into the fun foam.

Shadow images were stamped with fun foam cut in rounded rectangles with straight edged scissors.
