BLANK BOTTLE CAPS FOR STAMPING, SCRAPBOOKING & JEWELRY MAKING

We found these embellishments for a drastically lower price than you find in most of your craft stores. They're great to stamp on, add stickers to, pound and flatten.

Some crafters use an old style sizzix die cut machine to flatten their bottle caps. I just place mine inside down on my kitchen tile, put an old acrylic mount on top and stand on it. It flattens right out perfectly.

For information on removing the liner and filling bottle caps like in the images to the left see our product notes section at the bottom of this page.

This is the perfect punch for punching hang holes in bottle caps.

Rubber Stamping Basics

Our bottle caps, as do all caps we're aware of, have a seal inside the rim. Some have a more obvious seal, called a vacuum seal.

You can remove these liners by baking the bottle caps in a toaster oven at 300 degrees for about 5 minutes. Pull the caps out one at a time with needle-nose pliers and hold it with an oven mit while pulling out the liner with the pliers.

I'm not sure how safe it is to breathe in the melted plastic fumes. The smell isn't strong if you don't overheat them, but I'd still suggest doing this in a well ventilated area.

Since not all toaster ovens behave the same or register temperature correctly, I've provided some sample pictures to help you make sure you're heating the liner correctly.

  1. Liners that come on the inside of bottle caps.
  2. Perfect look to remove the cap from the oven
  3. Oven too hot or cap was put on a baking liner that was already hot. You can sometimes get the liner out if you let it cool for 2-3 seconds harden back up slightly
  4. Cap with liner removed
  5. What the removed liner looks like if the cap was heated correctly

If you prefer not to go through this but want a flat surface inside, you can add 1/8 tsp of UTEE powder and melt that inside a toaster oven at about 300 degrees for about 5 minutes. Watch carefully because it defeats melting the UTEE inside if the liner curls, as in picture 2. Do not try to pour UTEE from the melting pot into the bottle cap unless you want to experience a lot of frustration and mess. It's best to melt the UTEE inside the cap in the toaster oven.

Here are some ideas for filling bottle caps:

Diamond Glaze

One easy way to fill unflattened bottle caps is using JudiKins DG3 Art Gel. You can add several layers, adding embellishments to each that float on top of one another. Be sure to punch your hole first if you plan on using with a jump ring or cord.

Left bottle caps: These were flattened. The upper left sample has a small amount UTEE and glitter melted inside with a gold snowflake stamped inside. The rim was painted gold with a paint pen. The lower left cap was decorated on the outside. The rim was filled with Diamond Glaze and 3mm Micro Marbles were placed inside the rim. After those dried a stamped image was punched using a 1" circle punch (available on this page) and applied with a thin layer of diamond glaze and covered with diamond glaze with a sprinkle of glitter. For a great gift idea, add 1" or 3/4" circle project magnets to the back of the caps with a little craft glue.

Center bottle caps: the insides of 2 unflattened bottle caps were filled with 1 layer of micro marbles (2mm pearl for the top and 3 mm ice castles for the bottom) and 1/8 tsp UTEE powder. They were heated in a toaster oven at 300 degrees for about 5 minutes and then a stamped piece of tissue paper was put on top of he cooled UTEE with a pinch more grains and heated again. The tissue paper was punched with a 1" circle punch with a piece of copy paper to keep it from getting caught in the punch. After the cap cooled, Stickles glitter glue was added in dots around the rim.

Right bottle caps: These bottle caps had holes punched for the jump rings before decorating them. They were connected to make an ornament. Lost Coast Flower Girl images were stamped on light blue card stock and the faces were punched out with 1" circle punches. They were adhered to the inside of the cap with a little glue and 1/8 tsp of UTEE was melted at 300 degrees in a toaster oven. A little glitter was added and the UTEE was reheated to melt the glitter into the UTEE. Later 3mm micro marbles were glued inside the rim and a ring of glitter glue was added.
