More information about Embossing Ink
Clear or lightly tinted ink pads are generally created to act as an embossing ink, a resist ink or a watermark ink. Most of these pads do all three but depending on their consistency and the type of pad the ink is stored in will make certain functions slightly different for different ink pads.
Embossing inks are clear or lightly tinted slow drying ink designed for use embossing powders. Resist inks prevent colored dye ink from coloring glossy or coated papers. Stamp first in resist ink, then color over with dye ink by stippling, brayering or shadow stamping. Watermark inks darken colored paper slightly so that monochrome pattern can be created. Most of these inks are housed in a foam pad because of the consistency of the ink. Ranger's Watermark pad (formerly Clear Resist) comes in a felt pad. This helps limit the amount of ink on the stamp so lines tend to be a little thinner and more crisp. This pad is the best for resist work in our experience, but not great for embossing. The most dense, high-quality foam pads come in the Tsukineko Products. VersaMark is a good all purpose embossing, resist and watermark ink.
