Studio Paint is a neat acrylic paint for use on canvas. It can be used straight, mixed with mediums to create glazes or with water to create watercolors or less opaque paint. To create this background I started with modern red Studio Paint and covered the entire gesso-covered canvas (figure 1a). By adding more water to the brush in some areas while painting than others, it provides variation in the color. Once the red was dry I did the same thing with dab of yellow Studio Paint but mixed in more water to keep the yellow from completely covering the red (figure 1b). I added just a touch of very watered down sable brown to the edges (figure 1c). Finally I chose a color of Adirondack paint dabber that would be a low contrast to the background paint to add some background images from our Grunge it Up stamp series (figure 1d). This step is optional in a paint-wash background.
