Rubber Stamping Basics

USING TAMP-A-TILE TEMPLATES

Tamp-a-tile templates are made of acrylic. Each piece has a grip on it so you can lift out each peice individually. This allows you to stipple, chalk or apply other background techniques to each section separately. In our demonstration we used chalks. It is probably the easiest way to create a background with each section defined.

Simply lay your template out on your paper, remove one piece and apply chalk to the entire exposed area. We find the end result is most striking when each area is highlighted with a darker border. In this case we used a black chalk to create a light charcoal outline by just running the applicator along the outside edge of the exposed section.

Replace the acrylic tile and select another to remove and complete the coloring for that section. Repeat until you've colored all sections. You now have your background for stamping!

I like to take this tool to the next level by using the template to create masking shapes. I simply use a craft knife to cut shapes out of plain copy paper, as thinner paper works better than cardstock for masking. In my demo, I simply used the donut shaped mask to cover the center while stamping the daisy in the middle, and then used the large circle cut out and center circle to maks while stamping the ring of calendula flowers. I didn't use any masking while stamping the tuplis. I just trimmed the cardstock down to the colored areas and applied my completed artwork to my card.

The other three samples of cards were all done with stippling. To create a darker border when stippling I just guided my stipple brush, with darker ink applied, toward the edges of the exposed area. Your background will look different every time you use your template.
